In 2007 I was teaching at the Institute of Photography and New Media for 6 months. My students (five men and five women) had to do exact documentations about life (hardship and pleasure, fears and hopes) of 20 people in the capital Thimphu.
To compare the life situation of town and rural areas we decided to do the same research work in a remote village in Bhutan.
To travel to Samay, Dagana was already an unforgettable adventure: the public bus we travelled broke down 2 times with 3 broken tires. We ended up spending a very relaxed night in our sleeping bags, camping beside the bus.
To experience the everyday life of the people in Samey was one of the most touching experiences I have had in Bhutan. The villagers told me that I was the first Westerner that came to their village.
